You can’t Pour New Wine into an Old Wineskin
Share
Today is the 1st day of December 2025.
This is quite a big deal for me to be writing this. I've waited so long to put out the ideas God himself has given me and I've tried over and over again to start things... but for some reason I could never fully see them through. Yet all the while I've been able to grow in my personal walk with the Lord and get to know Him on a personal level. It wasn't too long ago that I would have never considered myself, let alone call myself, a Holy girl. I don't even consider myself a writer, sorry for any grammatical errors. But this is me just being obedient, real, raw, authentically myself, and wanting to bring all the glory to Jesus. I am an artist and I long to reflect the creator's image. This is me pursuing that.
My dear friend,
You cannot pour new wine into an old wineskin.
"Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved" - Matthew 9:17 ESV
This is the word of The Lord, given to me, that I long to share with you. It has been a year full of growth, healing, and further rooting my identity in Christ. It has been a year full of blessings, answered prayers, and promises. All of these things are "New Wine" formed under pressure. And it is a new responsibility to steward these gifts well, whether they are physical, spiritual, mental, or emotional. So what is this new wine God has given you in this past year? And what is it being poured into? What were the ways in which you used to survive and carry yourself? That would be the old wineskin. You can't use the same structure/shell that you once carried yourself in. You can't pour the "new wine" (growth, healing, identity) into an "old wineskin" (self-pressure, shame, fear). Does a plant pressure itself to grow? No, it has to trust the gardener to re-pot it once it's ready. Are you going to pressure yourself to grow? Or are you going to trust that your Father, the creator, the gardener, the one whom loves you and knows you more than you could have ever imagined, to help you grow in the appointed time? Are you going to shame yourself into healing? Or are you going to fix your eyes on the Healer Himself? Will you allow your identity to come from fear? Or will you allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the person in which He has called you to be? And believe Him at His word?
It's time to let go of the old wineskin because the new wine will not be sustained in it.
"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." - Isaiah 43:19 ESV
"to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness." - Ephesians 4:22-24
So what is the new wineskin? Where or what are we pouring our faith, healing, growth, and identity into? Well first and foremost it is the new covenant found in our Lord Jesus Christ. The simple gospel message. He died for your sins, bore the cross, and covered you with His grace and mercy. You are no longer put to shame, you are free. And in that is found true pure love.
If the old wineskin was fear based perfectionism, then the New Wineskin is surrender, letting go of control, dropping pressure, and walking in the fruit of His spirit.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23
The new wineskin is grace, obedience, trust, discipline, boundaries, and at the end of the day it's submitting yourself unto God, dying to your old self, giving Him your YES, DAILY, and knowing that His word never comes back void. It's choosing to be led by The Spirit, not your emotions.
Growth can't go far in laziness or procrastination. Pain can only produce fruit from healing. Faith without works is dead. Selfishness can't die unless we take the focus off of self. Don't hand your authority over to an idol. Let's walk in obedience, not from a place of pressure or religion but from a place of love.
I don't know about you, but I'm not going to allow the enemy to get me to move outside of my true identity. I'm going to suffer as Christ also suffered. Because when we share in the sufferings of Christ, we also share in His comfort and in His glory.
"For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too." - 2 Corinthians 1:5 ESV
"The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him." - Romans 8:16-17 ESV
Look at us! On the road to pursue His Holiness.
He calls you Holy.
And remember, you're not alone in this.

Holy Girl
